Blessings An Ibiza wedding and blessing is very simple but incredibly powerful.  It is a focus of offered approval and well wishing from the gathered congregation, and from those called upon by the celebrant.  This may include absent friends, the population of the world, your Almighty/Creator etc. The blessing is a moment of focus for the combined energy of love and good wishes felt by everyone present, and also those present in thought and spirit.   Blessings are a gift to be cherished because they last for ever, giving us strength when we may need it. In fact anyone can offer a blessing - ‘Bless you!’ we exclaim when someone sneezes.  A blessing can be in almost any form, some short, some long, some poetic, some simple prose. The benefit of having a celebrant to offer the blessing, is that they will help you find the words and phrases that perfectly evoke and reflect your sentiments of the occasion. To suggest or provide here, various alternative blessings, while practical, can lead to off the shelf recitations.  I believe that a meeting and discussion to discover the dream you hold in your heart is vital to a sincere and memorable blessing.  That meeting may be by video link across the world, or face to face on Ibiza or in London.  After our initial meeting I will offer you a draft of a suggested blessing to consider, and then after any adjustments we can settle on a final format. Vows In practice, wedding vows precede the blessing.  We normally offer our blessing and support to a person or a couple who have just made a sincere commitment, and called upon those congregated to witness that public commitment. A vow is a statement of intention.  A solemn promise made to the world, in front of others.  The marriage promise of  “.....’til death do us part” is a very serious public proclamation, and not be undertaken lightly. We state our intentions on a daily, almost hourly basis, but undertaking a vow before witnesses lifts it for public gaze and scrutiny. The benefits of a celebrant are similar to those stated for blessings, and would be superfluous by repetition. Readings Our lives take us along different paths, each one with its own scenery of experience, and each of us bringing our uniqueness to the world. As a small child, I struggled with the adage “...the pen is mightier than the sword...”  The skilful choice and use of words is an enviable talent.  Each craftsman of language, may just like an artist  use the same colours for the same subject, but delivering results that are inspiringly different. Readings at ceremonies should be chosen with great care, they should carry a message which reflects not only the moment and the celebration, but inspires memories; and inspires also for the future.
